Why is my long term disability insurance allowed to take my back pay benefits from social security? I was finally approved for SS disability, which I was required to file for, at the request of my long term disability provider. They then required I file for my minor child and now the long term disability provider decreases my monthly benefit by the amount issued by Social security and they have required I Relinquish my back pay from social security. And, that caused an income tax issue due to the large amount of money involved.
