Gwyn 0 Posted November 9, 2018 I am 62 and am thinking to retire at 63 on widows benefits. My Husband was on disability for kidney failure for 5 years before his death. He started drawing at 58 (disability) half from social security and half from disability from a plan at work. Will my retirement be less from him drawing disability . I know it will be reduced for me retiring at 63 instead of full age. Just not sure if it will be reduced even more due to him being on disability at time of death. I definitely will be better drawing off his work record as he made quite a bit more than I. Is it the same as if he had taken retirement early?
Devin Carroll 1 Posted November 12, 2018 Your survivors benefit should be based on his full retirement age benefit and then reduced for your filing age. This is because the disability benefit is the accelerated full retirement age benefit.
