TomRitz 0 Posted January 24, 2019 My wife started her SS benefit at age 62 five years ago. I started my SS last June at FRA. My question for Devin; Is it to late for my wife to draw 1/2 of my benefit which would be $300 higher than her own? We are both 67 years old. Married 40 years. Thanks, Tom
Devin Carroll 1 Posted January 28, 2019 Hi Tom...your wife's benefit can be up to 50% of your full retirement age benefit, but since she filed early, the portion of benefit from her own work history was reduced. Here's a video that explains a scenario in which an individual became entitled to their own and spousal benefits at separate times.
